Tesco Food Collection 2021

5th July 2021

Help support people in crisis within your community this summer by joining us for the UK’s biggest food collection.

When Covid-19 struck early last year, the food banks in the Trussell Trust network saw an immediate surge in need. Across the UK, food banks were forced to adapt to restrictions overnight, while still delivering emergency food and support with their trademark resilience and compassion. During this time, their unwavering support was matched by the amazing volunteers and kindness of people donating food.

Where are we collecting donations?

St Helens Foodbank will be in St Helens Tesco Extra store , (St Helens Linkway) on Thursday 15th, Friday 16th and Saturday 17th July collecting donations as part of the National Tesco Collection. Please come along, pick up some extra items as part of your weekend shop to donate to the foodbank and have a chat with our volunteers to learn more about who our foodbank helps and how every item can make a huge difference to those needing our support. All food and toiletries donated at this store will be donated straight to St Helens Foodbank to support those in crisis within the local area.

Below is a list of items we regularly run short of that we would appreciate your support with donating:

How does the Food Collection work?

The summer holidays can be a very difficult time for families and individuals who are already managing on extremely tight budgets.

The Summer Food Collection is a partnership between Tesco, the Trussell Trust, and FareShare. This year, for three days in July, Tesco is organising and hosting a nationwide drive to encourage customers to buy an extra item or two of food when they shop in store and donate it at the collection point on their way out. The food donated is used by the charities to support families and individuals who are struggling to put food on the table.

Each participating Trussell Trust food bank is partnered with a local Tesco store and works with volunteers and Tesco staff, greeting shoppers on their way in to store and highlighting items that the food bank needs most.

Tesco generously tops up customer food donations, by making a financial contribution equivalent to 20% of the value of the food. So, by getting involved, you will not only help provide vital food for people experiencing crisis, but the top-up funding will help Trussell Trust food banks provide people with further support.

We are thrilled that the UK’s largest supermarket shares our vision that no one should go hungry, and is working together with us and FareShare to empower local communities to fight poverty.

We really appreciate your support to ensure we can provide essentials to those in crisis #EveryCanHelps
